April Highs and Lows

Since our last update, we've seen great days, rough days and everywhere in between. Helen was just getting better back in March and had several weeks of happy health. A few hours after Kim returned from a visit with her parents, Helen got a high fever of ~104 degrees, that didn't really come down consistently for the rest of the weekend. Another ear infection and antibiotics came out of that, plus the diagnosis to watch for another ear issue that could mean that it's time for tubes in the ears. Like father, like daughter I guess!
We had a few birthdays, too! Lest we not forget, Dora turned 5 years old on April 6. What a good dog she has been. And she continues to tolerate and get along just fine with her meddlesome sister, who loves nothing more than to interrupt naps, pound on her back, and pull on some fur-- all while providing a sustained diet of baby food scraps raining down from the high chair.

Helen's birthday was this past week and she had birthday celebrations on both weekends. A small family and neighbors celebration with the Johnson's in Atlanta last weekend got the birthday week started. Helen, who missed her nap, was not at all interested in her 8" round cake (but said "hmmmmm!" for her Grandmama's ice cream afterwards). This Saturday was the Greenville birthday party with many friends, more family, and lots of neighbors! It was a delight and we completely avoided the potential thunderstorms to have great sunny weather for the park, playground, and train rides! We'll share more pictures in another post for the birthday.

Also during this past week, I had a coast-to-coast travel excursion. I went to Santa Clara, CA (Silicon Valley) for my cousin Adam's wedding last weekend. My parents and I also made side trips to visit San Francisco, my first time viewing of the Pacific Ocean, and the tallest redwood trees. A red-eye flight back to Atlanta Sunday night left time for a quick 6 hour turnaround before I flew back out for a business trip in Portland, Maine... followed by another jaunt down to Dallas, Texas. But I was home by Friday evening in time for family and the birthday party. Whew! How often do you drive on Scenic Coast Highway 1 next to the Pacific and the Atlantic in the same week?!

Coming soon...

... a very thorough update of what's be happening lately. Promise.

In the meantime, check out the updated web album of my California trip and of Helen's birthday party (birthday cake pictures missing).

Thanks,
Alan
